The University of Dallas baseball team is off to a rough start, but you can’t say the same thing for starting pitchers Josh Crapps and Chris Schierhorn of Anchorage.
Both former Alaska Legion players threw well in their first appearances of the season.
Crapps earned a no-decision in a 2-1, 10-inning loss to Texas Lutheran, although he pitched very well enough to win.
The freshman right-hander allowed just two hits and a run over six innings of work.
Schierhorn, a senior southpaw, gave up five hits and three unearned runs in six innings against Howard Payne University.
Anchorage’s Trevor Allred is the starting third baseman for the Crusaders.
At Calhoun Community College in Alabama, Zach Ferntheil of Anchorage pitched for the first time over the weekend.
The former Gatorade Player of the Year tossed four innings, allowing two hits and one run. Batters are hitting just .133 off the right-hander.
