The baseball season has arrived, at least in the Lower 48.
And the Alaskans are ready to roll.
Anchorage’s Dylan Wisthoff, Cory Clevenger and Dylan Lauwers, and Austin Samulowitz of Fairbanks, each enjoyed success as the season kicked off over the weekend.
In the California Community College of Baseball Coaches Association, Wisthoff helped Irvine Valley beat Long Beach 2-1 with the game-tying RBI in the sixth inning.
Wisthoff finished 1-1 with a single, walk and two sacrifice bunts. He also had a stolen base.
Clevenger and Lauwers combined for three of College of the Desert’s 10 hits in a 9-4 loss to Santa Ana.
Clevenger had two hits and a run scored. Lauwers had an RBI single.
None of them, however, are as hot as Samulowitz.
At Southern Nazarene University, he has started the season with a blistering .417 batting average in the first three games on five hits in 12 at-bats.
