Kenai Post 20 today used a five-run sixth inning to fuel a 7-4 win over Strongsville [Ohio] Post 795 during the semifinals of the Bill Miller Big Fish Tournament at Oiler Park in Kenai.
Justin Wisnewski and Mitchell Thompson each had 2 RBIs in the go-ahead sixth inning, helping Kenai beat its second Lower 48 team in as many days.
Yesterday the Twins defeated Columbia [Tenn.] Post 19 2-0.
Today they relied on offense, outhitting Ohio 14-5 with wood bats and capitalizing on three errors in the sixth.
Kenai sluggers A.J. Hall, Jake Darrow, Josiah Covey and Thompson each had out two hits and combined for 6 RBIs.
Kenai [22-7] will play in the championship game Thursday at noon against Tennessee, which advanced to the final after beating Castroville [Texas] 460 15-5 in the other semifinal.
Win or lose, the Big Fish Tournament is a home run.
"The Post 20 Twins American Legion baseball program appreciates Alaska Airlines and the Alliance for bringing these teams from Outside to Alaska to play," said Post manager Lance Coz.
"It gives us an opportunity to judge our programs in Alaska with other programs nationwide. We have some very strong teams in Alaska and it helps us identify and know what we need to do to get better. It’s never easy road to a championship"
