On Deck: Line Drive Hitting League
Posted by Van Williams, ALB Media Director | Dec 17, 2011
Call it early spring training. The Line Drive Hitting League is designed to give Alaska baseball players extra swings in January and February so they are ready to rip the cover off the ball this summer.
The league will not be instructional but rather a chance for players to compete amongst each other in a game format on Sunday afternoons at The Dome. The 8-week league begins Jan. 8 culminates with a playoff round Feb. 26. Cost is $50.
"The fun comes in getting together with friends and meeting new people through baseball," said league director Ryan Murray.
Teams will consist of 3 or 4 players [ages 9-18], with each hitter getting 8 live swings per inning. Points are determined by location of line drive.
"I want players to understand the importance of repetition in a sport like baseball," Murray said. "As a player, you must put in work all through the year to become successful during the season."
Any bat is allowed [wood/aluminum]. Helmets will be supplied and must be worn in the cage. Prizes available for championship team and top hitter.
