Fairbanks, Bartlett, Chugiak win on Day 1 of state tournament

Fairbanks 6, Kenai 4

Taylor Kelsey pitched a complete game and Terrell Ford belted a 2-run homer for Fairbanks Post 11 to highlight a 6-4 win over Kenai Post 20 on the first day of the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Kelsey scattered six hits and seven walks over his nine innings of work to earn the win.

Fairbanks is the No. 10 seed. Kenai is No. 7.

Ford crushed a two-run bomb in the second inning to highlight the 10-hit attack.

Teammtes Tyler Christmann and Harrison Alford also had RBIs for Fairbanks, which has won its first game at state every year since 2008.

Hector Rivera drove in two runs for Kenai and Tommy Bowe had a RBI. Brandon Mahle started for the Twins and threw seven innings.

Bartlett 11, Eagle River 10

Sean Breslin went 3-for-5 at the plate and earned the save on the mound to lead Bartlett Post 28 to a 11-10 win over Eagle River on the first day of the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Breslin also scored three runs and drove in a pair to help the Golden Bears win their first game at state since 2007.

Bartlett rallied from a 10-5 deficit with a six-run seventh inning.

Deray Alex, Dimitri Torres and Ryan Dudley each had two hits. Alex collected two RBIs.

Bartlett starter Andrew Dickey picked up the win.

Eagle River's Kyle Frost went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Colby Leblanc had two hits and a RBI.

Bartlett was seeded No. 9, with Eagle River No. 8.

Chugiak 14, Dimond 2

The Chugiak Post 33 Mustangs scored five times in the first inning and never looked back, running away with 14-2 win over Dimond Post 21 on the first day of the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Chase Wilson was a difference maker, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. He also threw a 2-hitter over six innings to pick up the win.

Chase Gall drove in four runs for the Mustangs. Teammate Zach Brueggemann had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Dimond's Mahlon Cleveland banged out two of his team's four hits. Mason Anderson and Jordan Clevenger scored the runs.
