The Kenai Post 20 Twins today had their chances to beat host Billings, Mont., at the Northwest Region 7 Tournament.

But they lacked key base hits with runners on base, which cost them dearly in a 14-8 loss that knocked them out of the double-elimination tournament.

Kenai left 12 runners on base and stranded at least one in each of the nine innings.

The Twins played well enough to win; they had more hits [15-10] and committed fewer errors [3-1].

But Montana cashed in on three big innings, scoring four in the second, four in the fifth and five in the sixth.

For Kenai, Jake Darriw went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Justin Wisnewski was 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs.

Other hitting stars included Brian Rowe [3-5, RBI], Josiah Covey [2-5, RBI] and Maxwell Hegge [2-5, RBI].

Kenai, the Alaska state champion, finished the season 34-11.
