Legion A: South’s Black, Gold to meet in state final

The South-Black and South-Gold Legion A teams each won semifinal games to advance to the championship game of the Alaska Airlines Junior Legion State Tournament.
South-Black beat Dimond 9-2 and South-Gold beat Wasilla 5-1. Both games were at Bartlett High School.
Sunday’s state title game is at 12 p.m. at Bartlett.
This is the third straight tournament these teams have met in the title game, with South-Black winning the previous two meetings.
South-Black 9, Dimond 2
Hayden Bragg, Kellen Curtis and Joey Serra each drove in two runs to support winning pitcher Dylan Maltby for the No. 1 seed.
Bragg went 3-for-4, doubled and scored two runs. Curtis was 1-for-2 with a run, walk and a hit by pitch. Serra was 1-for-3 and added a sac fly.
Maltby allowed only one hit over his 5.2 innings of work. He scattered nine walks and struck out four batters.
Dimond’s Logan Sweet singled and scored a run. Alex Wright walked three times and scored a run. Rivey Straw singled and walked twice.
Relief pitcher Jeremiah Eneix threw two innings of scoreless relief.

South-Gold 5, Wasilla 1
Eric Galosich pitched the whole way and got an early boost from Josh McGovern’s two-run triple in the third inning for the No. 2 seed.
Galosich allowed eights and no walks over his seven-inning effort. He finished the game with four straight scoreless frames.
McGovern finished with three RBIs. Blair Coomer batted 3-for-4 and scored a run. Skyler Sugita went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Wasilla’s AJ Camacho was 3-for-3 with a triple and a double. Lennon Bass went 2-for-4.
Jacob Hanson put in a yeoman’s effort on the mound in terms of avoiding crooked numbers despite runners constantly on base via hit (9), walk (1) and hit by pitch (4).
He ended three innings by strikeout and one inning by double play.
