Bryan Baker threw a five-hit shutout when his team needed it most, lifting South Post 4 to a 5-0 victory over Juneau Post 25 in an elimination game on Day 7 of the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

With the win, South advanced to the state title game Thursday at 2 p.m. vs. the unbeaten Chugiak Post 33 Mustangs. South will have to beat Chugiak twice to win the championship.

Don't doubt the Wolverines, who have won 24 games this summer.

Baker walked just two and struck out eight in nine innings of work, helping the South staff earned its second straight shutout.

Matt Illailio had the big bat, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Brad Butcher and Jacob Crapps also drove in runs.

Juneau's starter Dylan Johnson pitched well enough to win, allowing seven hits and five runs in going the distance.

R.J. Markovich had two of his team's five hits.

Juneau, which returned to Legion this year for the first time since 2001, finished the season 22-9.
