South 3, Service 2

Trailing the entire game, the South Post 4 Wolverines used a three-run ninth inning to stun Service Post 28 in a 3-2 win on the second day of the Alaska Legion state tournament.

Brad Butcher, Spencer Floyd and Nick Lopetrone each delivered big base hits, with Lopetrone winning the game with a walk-off single.

No. 6 seed Service looked to be in position for an upset win against No. 3 South, building a 2-0 lead for starter Karson Frisk.

In the second inning, Michael Choy drove in Ryan Caron for a 1-0 lead. In the ninth, Zach Cuddihy came up with a RBI single to give the Cougars a seemingly comfortable 2-0 advantage.

It wouldn't last.

Alec Valdez led off the bottom of the ninth with a sharp single. Butcher followed with a run-scoring triple. With one out, Floyd tied the game with a base hit.

Then with two outs and the count 2-2, Lopetrone played hero by plating Floyd with the winning run.

The stars of the game were starting pitchers Bryan Baker and Frisk, who both threw complete games and showed excellent command. Baker had seven strikeouts and one walk, Frisk had six Ks and two walks.

Juneau 4, Fairbanks 3

Juneau Post 25 made the most of its first state tournament appearance since 2001, scoring the winning run with one out in the ninth inning to beat Fairbanks Post 11 by a 4-3 score on the second day of the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Kellen Johansen drove in Tanner Petrie to deliver a walk-off win, allowing the No. 2 seeds to survive the No. 10 seed.

Johansen finished with 2 RBIs on the day. Tal Norvell and R.J. Markovich each went 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Markovich also picked up the win in relief of starter Dylan Johnson, who pitched beautifully over eight innings. He allowed five hits and three walks while striking out eight.

For Fairbanks, hard-luck starter Mekiah Stansel suffered the loss despite going the distance.

Stansel allowed eight hits and walked just one. He struck out four.

Wasilla 8, Bartlett 1

The top-seeded Wasilla Post 35 Road Warriors collected 11 hits and got eight solid innings from starter Shane Andrews in an 8-1 win over Bartlett Post 29 on the second day of the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Andrews scattered eight hits and allowed just one walk and one run. He struck out three.

Wasilla scored five times in the first inning to give him plenty of support.

Mitchell Chauvin, Jonathan Boyer, Jacob Butcher and Tyler Hansen each had two hits. Ben Ross had a pair of RBIs.

Bartlett's Wynter Gross went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases.
