South 13, Wasilla 0

South Post 4 scored in all seven innings and banged out 16 hits en route to a 13-0 victory over Wasilla Post 35 in an elimination game at the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

South's scoring spree looked like this: 3-3-2-1-1-2-1.

Spencer Floyd and Andy Schafer each had three hits on a day when eight of nine starters got at least one hit and seven drove in at least one run.

Schafer had three RBIs, while Floyd and Brad Butcher each had two.

It was South's 23rd win of the season, and it came against the No. 1-ranked Road Warriors, who entered the day with a state-best 24 wins.

Almost overshadowed was the pitching performance of South starter Nick Jensen.

All he did was limit arguably the best offense to just three hits en route to a 7-inning shutout.

Wasilla finished the season 24-9.

South is now among just three teams still alive for a state championship.

The Wolves will play their third straight eliminatin game Wednesday.
