PLAYERS TO WATCH

Josiah Covey, Kenai: The third baseman is hitting .500 at state [14 for 28] and leads the tournament in RBIs [13] and total bases [17]. He is also Mr. Walkoff, driving in the winning run three times in his team’s last at-bat to beat Service, South and Eagle River.

Cameron Fritz, Chugiak: Fritz is hitting .500 [9 for 18] with four doubles and a home run. He leads the tournament in slugging percentage [.889] and is second in total bases [16]. On the mound he has thrown 8.1 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

The first-place team will travel to the American Legion Northwest Region 7 Tournament in Billings, Mont., where it will join Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Hawaii. Alaska’s first game is Aug. 9 vs. Hawaii.

The second-place team will travel to Burley, Idaho, for the American Legion NWCART, where it will join Montana, Idaho, Utah and Oregon. Alaska’s first game is Aug. 10 vs. Utah.
