Upsets rule Day 1 of Legion State Tournament at Mulcahy

It was a tough day to be a top seed Friday at the Alaska Legion State Baseball Tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

All four top seeds lost first-round games, dropping into the consolation bracket.

Now the bottom four seeds dominate the winner’s bracket.

Here were the scores:

No. 6 Dimond 6, No. 3 Chugiak 3

No. 7 Juneau 13, No. 2 Service 8

No. 5 Kenai 9, No. 4 Eagle River 5

No. 8 South 11, No. 1 Wasilla 6

All four winners earned a day off Saturday. The losing teams will face off in elimination games Saturday afternoon.

At the Horizon Lines Invitational at Bartlett High School, Fairbanks 30 and Bartlett advanced.
