2012 Alaska State Tournament
Wasilla 8, Dimond 7
Kenai 11, Service 10
 Kenai 11, Service 10
Nobody seemed to get Josiah Covey out all night so it was fitting he was one to win the game.
Covey lined a two-out single into centerfield with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Brandon Mahle with the winning run, keeping Kenai Post 20 alive in the state tournament.
Covey finished 5 for 6 with 3 RBIs for the Twins [31-9].
Kenai used a five-run fifth inning to take control. After it added another run in the sixth for a 9-4 lead, the outcome seemed like a formality.
But Service Post 28 had other ideas.
The Cougars struck for two runs in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
Trace Woodruff's two-out single up the middle tied the game at 10-10 in the top of the ninth inning.
Service finished the season 12-23-1.
 Wasilla 8, Dimond 7
David Newman led off the tenth inning with a double and scored on Damon Hammer's single to help the Post 35 Road Warriors avoid elimination in the state tournament.
Newman finished 3 for 4 and scored three times. Hammer and Ian Stormont each had two hits for Wasilla [18-11].
The loss knocked out Dimond Post 21, the two-time defending state champion.
The Lynx did not go down easily.
They scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning, with Austin Brown's RBI single tying the game at 7-7 with two outs.
Both teams had 10 hits.
Dimond's Dylan Lauwers went 3 for 5 and Payton Lauwers and Antonio Bost each had two hits.
Dimond finished its season at 24-10.
