Wasilla, Fairbanks to square off in A Tournament title game

After sleepwalking through the first game of the Alliance A/Open Tournament on Friday, the Wasilla A team came alive Saturday.

The Road Warriors battled back to win back-to-back games to secure first place in Pool A and earn a spot in Sunday's championship game.

Wasilla will face Fairbanks at 3 p.m. at Mulcahy Stadium for the title.

Wasilla beat Service 4-1 in the morning before defeating Kenai 13-3 in the nightcap, making up for a 3-2 loss to Chugiak the day before.

The win over 2-1 Service was especailly crucial because it turned out to be the difference, with head-to-head being the first tiebreaker.

Service will play South in the second-place game at noon at Mulcahy.

Fairbanks advanced to the championship after going 2-1 to win Pool B. The 49ers split Saturday's doubleheader, losing 5-3 to Dimond before routing Kenai 13-3.

Fairbanks and South both finished 2-1, but Fairbanks beat South 5-0 Friday for the head-to-head advantage.

In other action Sunday, Chugiak and Dimond will play in the fourth-place game at noon at K1 while Kenai and Eagle River meet in the third-place game at 3 p.m. at K1.
