Wasilla 11, Eagle River 1

It's gotta be the shoes.

Rocking bright, neon orange cleats, Jacob Butcher pitched lights out over eight innings to highlight Wasilla Post 35's 11-1 mercy rule win over Eagle River in an elimination game at the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Butcher gave up just five hits and one unearned run. He struck out a half dozen.

Wasilla's Ben Ross went 3-for-5 with a triple, RBI and three runs scores. Jonathan Boyer and Tyler Hansen each drove in a pair of runs.

For the Road Warriors, the victory was their 24th of the season, tops in the state.

David Fuller drove in Eagle River's lone run in the fifth inning.

The Wolves finished the season 18-19.

South 6, Dimond 5

Matt Illalio's RBI single in the sixth inning lifted South Post 4 to a 6-5 win over Dimond Post 21 in an elimination game in the Alaska Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Illalio, Alec Valdez and Andy Schafer each collected two hits for South, which won its 22nd game of the season.

Starting pitcher Brad Butcher earned the win with seven innings of work. He gave up five hits and six walks but just two earned runs.

Jensen came in relief and threw two scoreless innings to get the save.

Dimond's Mahlon Cleveland drove in two runs on a day when six different Lynx players got base hits.

The Lynx finished the season 18-17-2.
