The West Eagles officially kicked off high school baseball for the Cook Inlet Conference as they opened the season in sunny California.

Shawn Jones, Jack Opinsky and Chris Crespo each delivered RBIs in a three-run sixth inning to propel West to a 5-3 win over local team Foothills Christian at the San Diego Lions Club Invitational.

Three Eagles players pitched with Leland Wilson starting and going 4.2 innings, Luis Nunez coming in relief to get the win and Thomas Zettler coming in to close it out for the save.

On Day 2, West dropped an 8-2 decision to Placer of Auburn, California.

The game was tied at 2-2 in the fifth before Placer broke open the game. Crespo drove in a run and Opinski had two hits.

West will face Central Union tomorrow.
