Juneau’s Philip Wall came one out from throwing his first college no-hitter but settled for a 1-hit shutout as the University of Northwestern-St. Paul beat Crown College 4-0 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The sophomore right-hander carried his no-no into the seventh and final inning, retiring the first two batters he faced to set up his magical moment.

But Bailey Sarto singled through the left side on a 3-1 count to break up Wall's no-hit bid.

The former Juneau Legion Post 25 pitcher retired the first nine batters before issuing a walk to lead off the fourth inning. That base runner was later erased on a caught stealing.

Wall (2-0) racked up seven strikeouts and faced just three batters over the 7-inning minimum.

He threw a 9-inning no-decision in his last outing.

Coupled with this performance, Wall lowered his season ERA to 0.41 in 22 innings.
